Here & Now 8

The Summer is in full swing now. Here it is hot, scorchingly so some days, and thus my thoughts turn continually to cool escapes and daydreams. I spend my early mornings in the garden listening to the bees as they work among the flowers we are both visiting. Before the hot sun chases me back inside, I love to turn the spray of the hose skywards, tilt my face just so too, and close my eyes as the droplets fall in a refreshing shower upon my face and a patter upon the ground. Like rain!

A gorgeous hibiscus flower tucked in amongst glossy green leaves.

Colourful  zinnias brighten our garden.

A glorious and golden Grevillia.

Loving //  The bright colours of  beautiful zinnias and other Summer blooms.
Eating //  Simple, homemade meals to eat with salads on warm evenings.
Drinking //  Sparkling spring water, chilled in the fridge, with ice cubes in my glass.
Feeling //  Contented at home.
Making //  A new, midnight blue dress in fabric covered with tiny flora.
Thinking //  That these school holidays are almost gone and I'm not ready yet to give them up!
Dreaming //  Of deep oceans, shady glades, balmy breezes and drenching rain.

Whatever the season where you live, I hope there are simple joys, like flowers, that brighten your Here & Now days.

Meg

  1. We had a few days reprieve from the heat here, but it's back again!
I'm usually such a heat seeker, when everyone else is complaining about the heat I'm the one loving it...but not so much this year.
It's funny because I really enjoyed Winter last year, and I usually dislike the cold.
    Hmmm...maybe MY seasons are changing.
Either way we just need to bloom where we are planted :)

    1. Oh, I love the cooler months, Cheryl. I grew up in the far north, spending hot Summers swimming in rivers and creeks. I don't remember the heat bothering me the way it does now and often wonder if that's because I'm getting older and spend far less time in rivers and creeks:) Meg

  2. Your flowers are beautiful, especially the golden grevillia. Despite the heat there is still some lovely colour in the garden ;)

  3. Meg I do that with the hose sometimes too. I must make your icy poles soon as today is the first days of our really hot days. 37C on Saturday doesn't sound good :-( Three heatwaves within a few weeks must be a record for us. Yes Tassie looks very appealing at present.

    1. I need to make another batch of icy poles too, Nanna Chel. In this heat they don't last long around here! Meg:)

  4. It's going to be 37°C here in my part of South Australia, being a lover of the colder months weather like that is very hard for me to handle. Your garden must be a very happy place to be with all of those beautiful flowers in it.

    1. Hi, Jan. The garden is a lovely place to be in the cool of the mornings and on balmy evenings during Summer. It was 34C here today and Saturday is forecast to be 37C ... not really weather for gardening! Like you, I really love the cooler months probably because I can be outside more. Meg:)

  5. I love your posts Meg! They're so peaceful and gentle. Being outside first thing in the morning is the best in summer, and then late afternoon again when the sun is going down.
    Thanks for joining in again!
    Keep cool x

    1. Thanks, Sarah. It was so lovely to see, through your photos, that you've had rain. Doesn't it make such a different to everything after it's been so dry!

    1. Thanks! I think the strong colours of flowers like Zinnias really reflect the Summer season. Everything else can look a bit washed out! Meg:)

    1. Thanks! We are certainly enjoying the last week of our school holidays. We are going to spend most of our remaining holiday days here at home just pottering around and relaxing and enjoying days that can unfold with no plans and no need to be anywhere early in the morning! Meg:)

  8. That hibiscus is beautiful - my neighbor used to have one like that, and I loved it when a flower would make its way through the fence to surprise me. I was filling the birdbath yesterday and the honeyeaters got so excited about the water spray that they became quite bold flitting in and out of the spray.

    1. It would've been a delight watching those honeyeaters playing in the water:) We have a birdbath too and I love seeing the birds that visit for a drink or a quick dip. Meg:)
