Here & Now 9

Here & Now it is hot and it will be scorchingly so for quite a few more days to come. While it would be easy to wish this season of heatwaves away, I am trying to work with the challenges of the season while waiting patiently for the Autumn to come.

The creamy, fragrant Summer blooms of Frangipani.

Sweet, little homemade apricot and coconut balls.

A fresh, nutritious pasta salad.

An orchid in bloom on a battered old table.

Loving //  The Summer scent of Frangipani wafting indoors from our neighbour's tree.
Eating //   Healthy salads with spinach or broccoli for extra nutrition.
Drinking // Jugs full of cold, icy water with or without slices of lemon.
Feeling //  Grateful for the solar panels on our roof that offset some of our Summer energy costs.
Making //  Homemade goodies in the kitchen.
Thinking //  "This Summer could go on for a long while yet!"
Dreaming //   Of long alpine walks in cooler climes.

I wonder what your here & now is like, wherever you live? If you'd like to share, you can join in with Sarah, over at Say! Little Hen  like I have done. She hosts this short but sweet link-up each month.

  1. How beautiful being able to see and smell frangipani in real life. In NZ it only feels like Summer has finally arrived, December and January were very cool, the gardens and lawns are still extremely dry from all the wind we have had though. Do you have a recipe for those apricot balls you wouldn't mind sharing? Happy weekending to you.

    1. Hi, Julie. Our neighbour's Frangipani tree overhangs our back fence, creating a little patch of shaded lawn sprinkled with fallen flowers. So lovely! I'm envious of your cooler weather, today we are expecting 36C and tomorrow 39C! I'm going to share recipe for little apricot balls in a post next week, they are really easy to make. I hope you have a lovely weekend too. Meg:)

  2. I hope you don't mind if I join in via the comments section, I think not blogging anymore has given me more motivation to comment more!

LOVING - The 'atmosphere of change' in my life at the moment (I've prayed long and hard for this change)
EATING - Lots of salads and icy cold watermelon
DRINKING - Plantation iced tea with lots of ice!
FEELING - A little melancholy not to be blogging any more
MAKING - Attempting to convert an old dress into a skirt...we'll see!
THINKING - Will this Summer never end???
DREAMING - About finishing a multitude of unfinished projects

    1. It's always lovely to read your comments, Cheryl:) Change is one of life's certainties, isn't it! Perhaps your decision not to blog anymore will give you more time for all those unfinished projects that you're dreaming about finishing. I have lots of little projects like that too and I know I always feel good when one of them makes it to completion. Meg:)

  3. Meg I keep telling myself ' I can do this' ....meaning I can get through one day of heat. Tomorrow I will do the same. Our house is like an oven so movies are on the cards tomorrow.

    1. One hot day at a time, Chel. We're productive in the morning and like sloths in the afternoons! I hope you enjoy the movie, that the air-con in the theatre offers some cool relief. Meg:)

  4. Oh I hope you haven't been too hot! Reading the news and the temperatures some places have been getting to is making me so, so grateful I live on a tableland and this summer is being milder (previous summers have been so dry, and SO hot, the cattle troughs would warp during the day from the heat!.

Thanks for joining in, I always enjoy reading your lovely posts.

    1. It's 43C in the shade of our verandah right now, Sarah! I can't imagine heat that buckles cattle troughs! We've borrowed a dvd from our local library that we are going to watch later this afternoon while we eat homemade mint and choc-chip icepops. Meg:)

  5. Looking forward to your recipe for apricot balls, both the orchid and frangipani are gorgeous, thinking that I should snag a frangipani pruning from a nearby tree and try my luck with growing one.

    1. Many homes in the area where I live have frangipani trees in bloom at the moment, Pip. They are lovely. I love all the different colours from the white through to deepest of reds. They can be expensive to buy at nurseries so starting with a free pruning is a great idea. Meg:)

  7. In Hawaii we called frangapani flowers plumeria and made leis out of them or wore them in our hair. I miss that heavenly perfumed flower so much. I now live in Washington state where the winters would kill this plant and since it is poisonous to animals, I can't grow it inside my home. Thank you for sharing the picture of it...it really brought back some wonderful memories for me. :)

    1. That's so lovely, Debbie. I don't have a Frangipani tree in my garden but this one overhangs one of our shared fencelines. It is so beautiful when it's in flower. Meg:)
