It took a long time to knit this rainbow! Quite a few months of a little knitting, here and there, turned some soft, hand-coloured wool into this warm scarf.
A scarf of many soft rainbow colours.
This rainbow isn't one of strong vibrant colours but of muted and subtle ones: pink, purple, green, blue, yellow and orange. I think this softly-coloured scarf will look nice worn with a black top that offers a contrast to its gentle colours.
A rainbow of soft colours.
Lengthened in windows of time over the last few months, a dedicated knitter could probably knit this scarf up much more quickly as the pattern, for the Tweedy Eyelet Scarf, is easy with just plain knitting, yarn over and knit two together stitches to make the eyelets.
This scarf is an Autumn gift for a good friend. Now that this most lovely of seasons, a time for longer sleeves, light throws and warm scarves, has finally arrived here, I'll be able to give it to her:)
And now I need to find a new project for my knitting needles...

Oh WOW that looks lovely, very neat (and patient) stitching too by the look of it! Is that the first knitted item you've ever completed? If so you are off to a mighty start. I hope your friend really appreciates the time and effort involved.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cheryl. I have made some washcloths before and a few other scarves. All using just simple stitches. I started a more complicated scarf pattern last year but abandoned it because I kept dropping stitches all the time! I probably should have another look at it though and try again. Meg:)
DeleteMeg what lovely colours. I usually stick to the simple stitches too. I tend to forget where I am up to if I lose concentration and have no idea how to fix up any mistakes. LOL! It is getting cold here overnight and has been down to 10C at night. Time to dig out the extra blankets. So nice though after the terrible heatwaves.
ReplyDeleteThe cooler weather is lovely, isn't it! So nice to be wearing jeans today and snuggling in under the doona at night. I have no idea either how to fix mistakes when I'm knitting, Chel...I end up having to pull it all out and start again. Can be a tad frustrating especially if I've already knitted up a lot. Meg:)
DeleteI love those colours Meg and your knitting is so neat. You are doing exceptionally well and your friend will be over the moon. I'm sure she will think of you every time she wears it.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your next knitting project.
Kylie
I'm going to make myself a scarf this time in a beautiful blue organic cotton that I've got in my stash. The pattern is called Tao Silk Scarf by Laura Zander. It's a free pattern I found online. I will need to slip stitches and pass slipped stitches over but that's all good practice. Hopefully, I won't have to undo it too many times;) Meg
Deletevery pretty! am sure your friend will love it!
ReplyDeletei'm thinking of making a cowl for my sister soon, she always complains that scarves tend to fall off when she is working, it will be an eyelet one too;
thanx for sharing
A cowl sounds lovely...I've never made one before. I'm going to make myself a scarf next. I've found a pattern for free online and will give that a try. It's a little more complicated than this scarf though so time will tell if I can knit it up properly. Meg:)
