Here & Now 13

It's been raining today. The sound of heavy droplets drumming on our roof woke me early this morning. I listened lazily for the longest time, tucked in under cosy Winter covers. It felt such an indulgence!  The rain continued for much of the day but cleared mid-afternoon in time for a short bushwalk. We strolled along under tall eucalypts, all wet bark and dripping leaves, and dodged the many puddles left by the rain on the rocky track. I love the way rain washes and polishes the colours of the forest and leaves raindrop "sparkles" on its leaves...

Raindrops cling to the very thin leaves of a native grass tree.

Sunlight after the rain.

Raindrops sparkle on pine needles.

Loving //  Every opportunity to wear my woolly Winter jumpers.
Eating //  Generous bowls of warming split pea & bacon soup with thickly buttered sourdough slices.
Drinking //  Hot chocolates ... still with no marshmallows!
Feeling //  Winter's chill on the tip of my nose.
Making //  Big batches of ... soup!
Thinking //  ... of how beautiful raindrops are when they catch the sunlight.
Dreaming //  Of  a campervan holiday in Tasmania to see the snow (and wombats) again.

Now, we are back home again. Outside, the nighttime air is bracing and cold but hereinside our home,  we are snug and warm. I wonder if we'll wake to the sound of more rain tomorrow?

Meg

  1. I would love to wake up to the sound of rain on the rooftop at the moment. Winter is our wet season here in SA and we have had very little so far, if it doesn't rain soon I'm scared to think what our summer will be like as everything will be very dry.

    1. I hope the rain comes soon, Jan. With Summers so hot and so dry, it's good to have some moisture in the soil before then. Meg:)

  3. We've been having a lot of soup too. I love how many different kinds there are! Such a versatile food.
I love the way leaves sparkle after they've been rained on too, if the sun comes out and shines on them. Your walking place looks like a lovely one to visit!

Thanks so much for joining in again Meg, and stay warm!

    1. I think I'd be hard pressed to name a favourite soup, Sarah. There's so many I like...split pea and bacon, pumpkin, minestrone...the list is endless! Meg:)

  4. It's nice when the rain arrives, isn't it? We've had a few days like that now. Not heavy rain, just the occasional drizzle - but still nice to wake up to little droplets on everything.

    1. We can often watch the rain approaching over the ridge from the south/west or from the coast. Often we hear it before it even gets here if it's heavy enough. It's usually a very welcome sound. Meg:)

  5. I love the sound of rain at night while I'm bundled up warm and snug in bed. Bliss! Not so much in daytime, especially this time of year when it means cold soggy wet dog walking and extra-dark winter days. Bring on the woolies!

    1. Our Sir Steve dog gets thoroughly down in the dumps on wet days as we can't go on our long walks together. He doesn't mind a bit of mud though! Meg:)

  6. Alan made leek and potato soup on the weekend ... that's my favourite kind ... when someone else makes it!
Isn't the rain glorious! My back garden looks a bit like a bowl of soup at the moment.
