Gardenias that Grace My Garden

At the bottom of our front stairs, planted in a little hedge around our timber retaining wall, are these gorgeous Gardenias. Their creamy white beauty and heady fragrance is sublime. I love to pause on our  bottom step and just breathe in their perfume!

I thought I'd share a little of their beauty with you on this ordinary, everyday Thursday. I'm not sure it can be an ordinary day though when one has flowers like Gardenias adding such grace to a garden.

Perfection!

 The first petals unfold.

 Opening!

I hope you have some time today to stop and smell the roses  gardenias!

Meg xx

  1. Ooh Gardenias! I love the fragrance. My mom had a plant a long time ago when I was a kid. Gardenia and jasmine are two of my favorite flowers with fragrance.

    1. You might be able to grow them, Stephenie. Maybe try just one plant in position that has good soil and gets morning sun. We've had a lot of rain recently and my Gardenias have loved that and responded with masses of blooms. Meg🌼

  4. Meg I must go and check our gardenias as they are in pots and I moved them out of the tradies's way. I am not sure they survived the heatwave. Oops!

  5. Beautiful photos Meg. Gardenias are wonderful in that they look beautiful and smell so good. A little bit of tropical island right there at the bottom of your steps.

  6. Oh yes, I love gardenia’s too!

Talking about Jasmine, I was driving through town at about 9pm last night, and it was so still and balmy, unusually for me I had the car window down, and the scent of Jasmine was so strong everywhere we went. I don’t think I’ve ever smelled it so strong before. It was just delicious. The conditions must have been just right for it.

    1. I think conditions have been just right, Cheryl. Lots of good rain and now warm to hot days. Our star jasmine grows along one fenceline and it's in full flower now.

    1. They are a great plant ... glossy green foliage, these gorgeous flowers and amazing fragrance too. They may not be edible but I don't hold that against them! Meg:)

  10. I wish I could smell those gardenias! They don't do too well around here - they seem to prefer the kind of climate I grew up in, where they could get plenty of heat in the shade :-)

Gardenias are a demonstration of how lovely and satisfying Ordinary can be!

  11. Just catching up with blogs again, after a little offline break. Day Lilies, concerts and now Gardenias in your garden. Sounds like a right treat! My gardenias haven't come into bloom yet, but the mock orange and citrus have. So I know the heavenly fragrance you speak of, wafting around the garden. I double-back also, lol. It's just too nice to walk away from, without a second helping. :)

    1. One of our neighbours has a mock orange hedge, Chris. Walking past it at the moment is heavenly because of that wonderful perfume. There's so much in bloom after the good rain we had. You have Gardenias to look forward to as well. Lovely! Meg:)
