Back to the Sea

Under heavy, grey clouds and beside waves reflecting the muted colours of the sky, I walked by the sea. Along a deserted beach, with the cold wind whipping at my shirt sleeves and even colder waves washing over my bare feet, I felt rejuvenated after weeks of illness and days yearning for the ocean. Away from the sea for too long and I notice its absence.  Upon returning, I noticed its calming presence and its beauty.

Dark, grey clouds above the waves.

 A blue jellyfish washed ashore.

A tiny, glassy jewel from the sea.

 A single seagull's feather.
 Driftwood on a deserted beach.

For me, the ocean is a place that is restorative and centering. It's a place where I can be alone with my thoughts. A place where Mother Nature is my companion. Perhaps it is for you too.

    1. I was born under one of the zodiac's water signs and feel it's true that I always feel happy in the presence of water. Even as a child, this was true. Traipsing off to swim in local creeks and rivers after school. lakes on the weekends and the very occasional holidays my family took beside the sea at Mission Beach are among my favourite memories. Perhaps you were born under a water sign too, Cheryl??

    2. Well until 5 minutes ago I thought I was a water sign, but I did a quick check and it appears Aquarians are an air sign! I always thought they were water! And the word almost implies water...I don't know if I'm wrong or right now!

    3. My Mum is an Aquarian! When I read the qualities associated with my Zodiac sign, they sound very much like me. Perhaps, read yours and see if they fit with how you perceive yourself. Meg:)

    1. Absolutely! There is something so very soothing about it. For me, I think the rhythm of the waves is part of that effect, like a peaceful backing track as I walk along. Meg:)
