Here & Now 4

Today, it is People's Day at our city's show, affectionately known as The EKKA. Although a public holiday, we won't be off to the "big smoke" to join the throngs of folk on the rides, in the pavilions and at the dagwood dog stands. We'll be here instead, in our home, enjoying the now of a slow, ordinary day together.

Seed pods dangling like ornaments from the bare branches of a Plane Tree.

A warm and nourishing homemade pie. Delicious!

Yearning to get back to the sea.

Loving // The nostalgic scent of the first sweet pea bloom in my garden.
Eating //   Homemade Chicken and Leek Pie with creamy mustard sauce. Delicious!
Drinking //  Filtered water with a squeeze of lemon juice every morning.
Feeling //   Exhausted after almost three weeks trying to recover from the flu.
Making //   Simple gift cards using sweet snippets from the dust jackets of picture books.
Thinking //   How beautiful the seed pods on the Plane Trees are this Winter.
Dreaming //  Yearning for long and restorative walks by the sparkling sea.

Have a lovely Wednesday, be it an ordinary day or a special one. Whichever it may be, I hope you find the beauty in it.

  1. I'm sorry to hear that you've been unwell Meg! The flu can be hard to shake sometimes, can't it?
I'd rather be at home than in the bustle of a show too, especially at one the size of the Ekka!

Thank-you so much for joining in again! I'm craving a slice of chicken pie now ;-)

    1. That pie was yummy, Sarah. I made it with leeks and broccoli and thyme from the garden. So goooood!

  2. Slow ordinary days are special too - enjoy it, and hopefully the extra relaxation helps fight off the remainder of your flu.

    1. Sometimes, we all need slow, ordinary days. This afternoon, I'm planning on spreading out a blanket in the sun and snoozing there under the blue sky. Special, indeed!

    2. I took a little time out yesterday afternoon for the simple pleasure of reading in the sun - felt very luxurious. :)

  3. I adore the scent of sweet peas, might not be too late to plant them in my garden ready for summer.

    1. Sweet peas are my favourite flower. Their scent reminds me of my grandparents. They used to grow them on mass and they were so beautiful. I'm sure, if you plant them, that they bring you much joy, Julie.

  4. I hope you feel better soon Meg! I love sweet peas, they are so dainty and so pretty but they have the most amazing perfume like scent. A must for any cottage garden I do believe! I too would love to visit the beach, we are a little way from it though so it involves planning for a day trip, *sigh*. All the Here & Now posts are succeeding in making me quite hungry - your chicken and leek pie looks divine! Megan x

    1. I always plant my sweet peas later than the traditional St. Patrick's Day planting date so it's not too hot for them where we live. At the moment, the blooms are white so we waiting, with much anticipation, to see what other colours will open up. Do you grow them in your garden? Meg
