Handstiched Felt Ornaments

I adore handmade Christmas ornaments.  I treasure the ones we have for our tree. I love to see each one emerge from the tissue paper it's been gently wrapped in between Christmases and then the beauty and the warmth of them nestled in among the branches and the tinsel is such a joy.

This year, I hand stitched some felt ornaments to give to those we love. I so enjoyed the process of quietly stitching each one. I used the simple templates, from Melissa's tiny happy makings, some soft festive felt and a few strands of embroidery thread to make doves for peace and hearts for love ...

A felt heart for Christmas.

A little collection of peace doves.

Doves and hearts and a little handmade to tuck in to Christmas parcels. Have you been making things for Christmas too?

Meg

  1. I have some felt birds I was sent in a swap a couple of years ago, Meg. They are just lovely and adorn my little Christmas tree each year now. So easy to make too.

    1. What a lovely swap gift to receive, Chel. Something you can enjoy year after year at Christmas time. We have quite a few felt ornaments that friends have made and they are so soft and carefully stitched and special. Meg:)

  4. Such neat, even stitching, the time, effort and love you put in to these is very evident.

    1. Thanks so much, Cheryl. I'm glad you think they are neatly stitched because I was trying so hard to keep the blanket stitches even! Out of all the crafts I could happily while away hours on, embroidery is my favourite. I'm really keen to learn some more stitches and make more little embroideries in the coming year. Meg:)

  7. Your little ornaments are delightful eg, lovely stitching. I'm hoping to do a few in the few days left, nothing like quiet stitching on felt.

  8. meg, you might like to have a look at Pintangle if you're keen to do more embroidery http://pintangle.com/tast-faq/ Sharon from Canberra started it years ago as a challenge to learn and then use the embroidery stitches she gave a tutorial on each week, in as many ways as possible. She's starting again next year, but there's so much to see and enjoy in the archives, and it's fun to join in alongside others who are learning too.

    1. That sounds ideal, Nanette. I borrowed a book from my local library recently called Slow Stitch by Clare Wellesley-Smith. She uses stitch journals and I'm thinking about starting one of those too. Meg:)
