Here & Now 19

We've had a lot of rain here. Not as much as other areas to the far North, where torrential rain has caused widespread flooding. For many, this rain is a welcome relief from a drought that has parched their landscapes.

Where I live, there is blue sky again now, dotted with clouds. The returning sun has brought with it the feeling of a season turning. Summer is fading and my favourite season, Autumn, has begun.

Two skeins of a beautiful hand-dyed yarn.

A delicious Pear & Dark Chocolate Loaf.

Milky brown cotton for a new washcloth,

Loving //  The change in the season from Summer to Autumn.
Autumnal is one of my most favourite words!  💛

Eating //  Slices of lovely pear and dark chocolate loaf eaten warm when the chocolate
                      is still little sweet puddles.

Drinking //  Water, as always! A twist of lime or lemon too.

Feeling //  Quite tired and sore. I have developed tendonitis in both feet!

Making //  A few washcloths in latte and chocolate brown cottons.

Thinking //  ... that I may swim laps and knit a lot while my feet heal.

Dreaming// ...   of a first shawl made with yarn the colour of sandstone cliffs.

Over at Say, Little Hen, you will find the lovely Sarah and others who post their own monthly Here & Now lists.  Why not make yourself a cup of tea or coffee (or pour a glass of whatever you fancy) and visit with them awhile?

Meg

  1. Ouch, tendonitis sounds painful! Yes the cooler weather is great I agree although I just read that Queensland is on cyclone watch. Hopefully it will just go out to sea. That cake looks so yummy, Meg.

    1. The pear and chocolate loaf is delicious, Chel! It's one of the yummiest gluten-free loaves I've made. My Mum has had a lot of rain up where she lives, in the North, and is now keeping an eye on Cyclone Linda. More rain to come it seems. Meg:)

    1. Absolutely true! Here & Now posts always offer up some deliciousness of one kind or another. The chocolate and pear loaf is scrumptious. Gluten-free but soft and moist and not too sweet. Meg:)

  3. How uncanny that you are suffering from tendonitis, I have something similar at the moment too!! I've never had it before, but my left foot is killing me! I'm self diagnosing an inflammatory condition, I don't know which one it specifically is, but the treatment is pretty similar for all, gosh there must be something in the air! The 'Autumnal air" LOL

    1. My left foot is the worst one, Cheryl. The right is improving slowly but the left seems to be getting worse! So painful, it's hard not to walk on your feet:/ I laughed when the podiatrist told me to rest them! Hope your foot improves quickly! Meg:)

  4. That loaf looks delicious. :)
It's rainy here and I couldn't get any gardening done. But it's ideal for reading. So that's what I did today. :)

    1. The loaf tastes as good as it looks, Nil. The smell of it baking is just heavenly. Reading on rainy days is just wonderful, no better way to pass the time while the rain comes down outside. Meg:)

  5. Oh that chocolate cake looks divine! I do hope your feet heal soon. Being in pain when walking is simply no fun at all.

    1. The cake is delicious, Emma. It's one of those recipes that I make, slice and freeze. The pear in it gives it a lovely subtle sweetness but also keeps it soft and moist. Oh, yes! It's pretty hard to rest feet that are sore but even more so, I am missing the long walks I would usually do several times a week. Meg:)

  7. We didn't get as much rain as was predicted with both the storms, enough for lawns and gardens though. Your baking sounds rather delicious.

  8. I love autumn too. We've been having nice cool nights and mornings which warm up to lovely days. I wish summer could be more like that!
Gee that chocolate cake looks good - alas, all of my lovely baking has been put on hold while I am on Weight Watchers. The points system could factor in a piece of cake but I fear it would be my whole daily allowance of 23 points!

    1. I love Autumn mornings too, Joolz. So much nicer than a Summer day that starts out hot and just gets hotter! I often make the loaf cake with no sugar or half the amount in the recipe. That might lower its points value?? Meg:)

  9. I'm sorry to hear about your feet Meg! That sounds awfully painful!
Autumn is definitely on the way and it's lovely noticing all the little changes as they slowly begin to arrive.
I'm off to check out that cake recipe, it sounds divine!
Thanks so much for joining in,
    Sarah x

    1. I love the Autumn changes in the trees the most, Sarah. When the first leaves on the plane trees begin to change colour. So beautiful! I hope you'll give the cake recipe a whirl, it's heavenly! Meg:)

    1. Thanks! I would send that rain if I could! It's cleared here the past few days and we are back to lovely Autumn sunshine. I highly recommend the pear and chocolate loaf, it tastes even better than it looks! Meg:)
