Days With No Set Plans

My favourite days are those that unfold with no set plans. Nowhere we have to be. Nothing we have to do. Just a whole precious day where its hours are all our own. Weekend days can be like this and so can school holiday days. We are now on school holidays. That means strings of days to do with as we please.  What a wonderful, happy luxury to have two whole weeks where there is no need to rouse a school child from his slumber, no long school drive, no lunchboxes to pack up at the kitchen bench, no homework to do, no long drive home again. With all this freedom from our school routines, I know I will weave some of the things I love into these days that I love:

Reading ... for I borrowed many library books.

Sewing ... for there is a skirt to finish.

Knitting ... for there are gifts to make in time for Xmas.

Baking ... for we all like to lick the bowl!

Planting ... for it is Spring and the soil is warm.

Stitching ... for I want to make things with the old linens I've found.

Walking ... for there is always something of interest along a path.

I'm sure as the days pass that we will do more some days and less on others. There will be other favourite things among these favourite things. But what I like the most is the freedom of waking up and seeing where a day takes me. Don't you?

Meg

  1. I often have days with no plans when I'm home. May be too often. 😊

I love the fabric you chose for the skirt.

    1. The fabric is one I've had in my stash for a long time, Nil. I originally intended to make a wrap skirt out of it but decided instead to make another A-line with long ties. I love all the birds on it, I adore birds! Meg:)

  2. Hi Meg,
How I love days like these, they are few are far between for me, but when I do have a day where I can stay at home I cherish it and make the most of every single minute. Have the loveliest of days, Fi

    1. Hi, Fi. I make the most of these days too. I love just pottering around at home, happily out in the garden and doing things that I have had to leave during the school term. Enjoy your day too. Meg:)

  3. Meg, I imagine my daughter is feeling the same as the school run can be tiring. One of my granddaughters is a sleepy head and the other is an early riser. I used to love the school holidays as I worked at a school.

    1. I think everyone who works in a school looks forward to holidays, Chel, especially the children! I know when I was teaching full-time, I loved those term breaks very much. The school run has been really tiring, for me a 45min drive one way and then home again in the afternoon. I hope your daughter enjoys her break from the school run routine too. Meg:)

    1. I have already picked out some recipes from Grown & Gathered that I want to try, Jan. I especially want to try a their soured wholegrain pizza bases. I haven't read through much more of the book though. I'll let you know what I think when I'm finished it. Meg:)

  7. We have plans that will keep us busy for the second week of the school holidays but this first week is all about meandering along. They are our favourite kind of days too. Enjoy your reading! xx Susan

  8. Unplanned days are often the best ones. Perhaps a bit of a sleep in followed by a late breakfast and leisurely stroll would be wonderful

    1. It's a box that I used to use in my classroom, Kathy. It has a broken hinge now but it's still good for threads. Meg:)

  12. Those are the best kind of days, it is so easy to get stuck in the rut of routines.

    1. Our school run dictates our routine so it is really nice to have a break from that. Most defnitely! Next year will be a bit easier because my son will go to a high school that is much closer to home, less than a 10min drive as opposed to a 45min drive. I'm looking forward to that! Meg:)

  13. Ohhhh, what lovely photos! Days with no plans are my favorite as well. We're already so busy right now, with my son being super involved with things at school, my daughter back in preschool, and I'm in physical therapy twice a week (which, with the appointment and travel to and from the office, takes a two hour chunk out of my day), so there are very few slow days around here. I'm already looking forward to the kids' winter break! I have squash and pumpkins that need to be roasted, but so far, I haven't had days when I'm just home to do that. Ah well, it'll make me appreciate those days all the more when they do come around. :)

Enjoy that lovely quiet break! :)

  15. No plans, but still a promise of something special to be experienced. Because don't we ALL want to lick the bowl, lol. ;)

We're enjoying our school holidays thus far. Today I made some more kombucha, caught up on some washing, and made the kids some bacon and egg wraps for lunch. I also managed to do some potting up of plants, a few days prior. Maybe no concrete plans, but full days nonetheless. :)

    1. Bacon and egg wraps sound delicious, Chris. We've been having toasties most days and loving the simplicity of that. Yesterday, my son learned how to make a simple cereal slice and iced it with melted white chocolate. There was some competition over that bowl! Meg:)

    2. The kids love toasties too! They love the melted cheese. I won't tell them about the white chocolate bowl at your place though. ;)
