A Little Handstitched Card

With needle and embroidery threads, I stitched a little gift card, with four tiny pink butterflies.

Little hand stitched card.

On a leftover piece of watercolour card, I drew four floaty butterflies lightly in pencil. Using the point of a needle, I pin punched their outlines ready for stitching. With a dark and a light pink thread for their wings and a chocolatey brown for their antennae, I sewed in simple back stitch to complete each little butterfly.

Stitching butterflies.

One tiny stitch at a time.

Sitting out in the warm shade on our verandah, sewing one tiny pink stitch at a time into the card, I thoroughly enjoyed this process, so much so that I lost track of time completely while stitching butterflies.

  3. I LOVE your butterfly card Meg, what a lovely idea.

I am glad it brought you peace for just a little while. It is good to find something to draw our attention away from the world for a bit.

  5. It so pretty, Meg. 😊

Seeing this reminded me that I didn’t touch my redwork embroidery for a while now.

  6. How clever to punch the holes first! I usually end up tugging the thread through which isn't nearly as relaxing.

    1. As I was making all those tiny holes, Lucy, I was thinking of Montessori's pin punching work. 🤗 Very relaxing! MegXx

  8. Beautiful work. You are very creative & artistic. Here in GA, USA I am trying to get much yard work done. All of my gardening efforts get dug up by the yukky armadillos!!! Your posts always encourage me. Maybe I need to get the sewing basket out!! Mary Ann

    1. Goodness! Armadillos in your garden. I can only imagine how much they like to dig things up because we don't have them here in Australia. Instead, we have bandicoots which can really make a mess when they come to visit. It can look like someone's drilled holes all over the lawn!

I hope you'll find inspiration for a project or two in your sewing basket. I am finding that I am really enjoying simple sewing and stitching during these more complicated times.

Stay well and safe, Mary Ann.
