Chocolate & Mint Washcloths

Chocolate & mint ... a match made in heaven!  The warmth of chocolate brown and the freshness of minty green knitted up into washcloths for giving with bars of peppermint soap and blocks of a divine dark mint chocolate.

 Mint & chocolate washcloths.

I added little finger-knitted loops for hanging wet washcloths.

Over the weekend just past, after many, many weeks of no making at all, it was lovely to get back to some knitting. I only had a few rows to finish off the milky chocolate washcloth and then quickly knitted up a minty green one to go with it. Together with the soap and the chocolate, they'll make lovely gifts.

A delicious chocolatey gift.

The chocolatey brown washcloth is knitted up in a soft, organic cotton. I love knitting with these kinds of cottons and using organic yarns if I have them. The pattern is a version of one of my favourites called Chinese Waves

A fragrant, minty gift.
(I buy this soap at a local grocer.)

The minty green washcloth is knitted in a lovely stone washed cotton colour called Green Agate. The Diagonal Garter Stitch pattern is quick and simple although there was a new knitting move for me to master called a "turn". So, I added a new stitch to my knitting repertoire too.

Handmade washcloths make a simple & practical gift.

The latter half of the year sees a flurry of family birthdays, all tumbling together in the lead up to Christmas. As has been a goal of mine for a couple of years now, I like to make and to give handmade gifts whenever I can. These chocolate and mint washcloths are a good start but I'll need to do a lot more making over the coming months to have a gift for everyone.

Off to find the next project ...

Meg

  1. I have heard many people talk about knitted cloths and how good they are, I am not a knitter unfortunately. Great gift idea I suppose you could do variations with other colours and soaps and chocolate.

    1. We use knitted cloths all the time, Marlene. I have some for the kitchen and some for the bath & shower. They can be re-used over and over again. It's important to hang them to dry after use and that's why I add the little finger-knitted loop to mine. Do you crochet? There are lots of patterns for crochet cloths too. Meg:)

    2. Hi Meg, no I don't I am not a crafty person really, the only crafts I have done in the past is a bit of card making and I once use to make jewellery.

    1. The recipient I have in mind loves this chocolate and so that's where the idea came from. Might have to think about other "flavours" to knit washcloths in! Meg:D

    1. I have two sets of washcloths, Kathy. One lot for dishcloths I use for the washing up and the other for washcloths that I use in the bath/shower. They last a long, long time and can then be composted. Meg:)

  5. They will be much loved and appreciated gifts, Meg. Thanks for those links. I will check them out. I need to knit more often as I often forget how to do the pattern after a while. I am worse with crochet.

    1. I think I need to make two or three things rach month until Chirstmas, Marlene. I am not planning on big projects, just sweet little things. I have been sewing up a little stitching work into a project bag this afternoon so also hoping to finish off half-completed projects as well. Definitely need to be organised! Meg🤗

I first learned about knitted dishcloths from an online forum. One of these days I'm going to make a simple one. :)

  11. Hi Meg... Thanks for visiting my blog. You had asked about the design for my mailart. It's a hodge podge of charts I put together to make the mailart, but the main design came from Quaker Blues. There's a tutorial on my left side bar on how to make mailart envelopes, too. HTH.

  12. Those will make lovely gifts. I keep a stash of homemade soaps and hand knits in a drawer. It's nice to go Christmas shopping at home. It saves a lot of money, and people really appreciate it.

    1. I love the idea of Xmas shopping from home, Stephenie. Little gifts like these are perfect for that. I love to give soap though my soap making skills are a work in progress. I love choosing scents that I think the recipient will love. Your soaps are beautiful! Meg 🤗

  13. I love your washcloths (and their colors)! I looked at the link of your Christmas presents and they are so nice. I have a book on knitting and one on crocheting washcloths and I hope to learn sometime soon. They are a perfect pairing for a soap gift, or even a baby gift! I have a couple I bought from someone and I love them. Andrea

  15. Oh, Meg. Now I have an urge, for eating chocolate mint patties! You know the ones? Lovely gifts by the way. We're fortunate that our family birthdays are broken up evenly through the year. So not any near Christmas. What a busy time of year, that is!
