A Rainy Weekend at Our Place

While the rain intermittently poured down outside, and drizzled in between those downpours, we remained (mostly) inside, all dry and cosy. I think there's something quite indulgent about wet weekends like this. They are the perfect "excuse" to eat comfort foods and sip warm drinks, snuggle under covers with good books, watch your favourite shows (having dragged those same covers to the lounge) and finish off a project or two. Here's a snapshot of the our rainy weekend:

Our rain soaked front verandah.

Raindrops on the olive trees.

Freshly baked Zucchini Slice Muffins.

Blanket stitching around a little felt brooch.

Cooking homemade minestrone soup.

A bunch of flat leaf parsley for the soup.

Pots of zucchini in the garden.

Little chocolate chip cookies baking in the oven.
(The delicious smell of them wafted through the house.)

A cucumber plant soaks up  the rain.

Washing drying inside.

A warm drink & a library book.

A saturated back yard.

Hmm... quite a bit of comfort food there. 😊 I'm sure the homemade lasagna and sticky toffee pudding we shared with friends who came for dinner on Saturday night would also be classed as comforting too. It seems I cook and bake (and eat?) a lot when it rains!

What's your favourite way to spend a rainy day?

Meg

  2. Such lovely photos! I like to spend rainy days indoors, reading or doing crafts. We had our first rains of the season on Friday night. I love falling asleep to the sound of rain!

  3. Beautiful porch....baking...green growth...everything! Wow, I never saw parsley that large! Olive trees are so beautiful...I've only seen them inside a conservatory at Longwood Gardens. Rainy days do have their pros and of course we always need rain for growing. I love a rainy day, and sometimes I even get disappointed if the rain is too quick and the sun unexpectedly comes out while I am still relaxing! Andrea

    1. The parsley self seeded in the garden, Andrea. It's such a bonus when plants do that. The olive trees belong to our neighbour but they are so big and tall now have spread their branches over our shared fence and shade part of our back rotunda which is gorgeous in the Summertime. I love their beautiful foliage and these tiny flowers. I might pull out some threads later on and try to stitch some on to some linen. Meg:)

  4. Meg, we probably didn't get as much rain as you so there were lots of walks around the garden and a little weeding. We had mainly drizzle here yesterday and it is overcast but not raining at the moment. Soup is good in this weather as our maximum was only 11C the other day.

    1. We've had some really heavy falls, Chel, and I keep thinking I really must replace the rain gauge that broke years ago! 11C is quite chilly, it's been cold here but not that cold! Meg:)

    1. Homely days are my favourites too, Cheryl. Our verandah is a lovely place to sit, many houses have verandahs or decks where I live. They really suit our sub-tropical climate. Meg☺

  6. Oh that broach is beautiful - As usual Meg!

And your rainy weekend sounds perfect. It has been a rough old stormy night here. But the garden will like the rain. What a beautiful verandah you have!

    xx

    1. Thanks, Emma. We have had a few storms roll though here, not anything destructive, so we've been glad of the rain they are bringing. There's nothing like rain for a garden! I love our verandah too as it's perfect for shading the house during our Qld Summers. Keep the house cooler! Meg:)

  7. Your weekend sounds lovely Meg. Ilove rainy weekends. A good book, a hot cup of tea and the comfort of the home are what I want when it's raining.
Your brooch is so cute. :)
And I too love your verandah. I love houses with porch/verandah.

  10. I love a rainy day, good for the garden and my soul. I will either get the sewing machine out (as I did yesterday), or curl up in a chair with a good book.

  11. A feast for the eyes, and the stomach! I think I'd love all that food to comfort me, as well. Your garden is looking so good. We're just starting to experience your protracted wet days too, so that I dry my clothes inside and my garden is popping out of the ground again. We've been enjoying roasts as well.

  12. I rather like rainy weekends. Most of all I like to stitch a quilt, or maybe read a book. I am not so keen on cooking these days but I am always happy to eat! Love your verandah, I'd love to have one (not likely, we are in a semidetached house).

  14. Your wet verandah looks very much like mine, I spent a lot of time running back and forth rescuing the animal beds as the rain changed direction:) My weekend also looked like yours....stitching, reading, sewing, cooking....but only soup making, no cakes and muffins. I spent a lot of time watching the BOM site, and checking what the river was doing, as we went on flood warning for a while. All was good though, despite the amount of rain.....over 300mls....the river rose only a little. We have a little watery sunshine right now, but there'll soon be storms overhead again, so I'm going to go spend as much time in the garden as I can.

    1. I'm glad the river didn't flood down your way, Nanette. The rain has eased off here today and we had some periods of sunshine. Tomorrow should see even less rain as things begin to dry out. Meg:)
