Here & Now 24

Here, as I write this, it is raining steadily. Our sky is a blanket of heavy, grey cloud that has obscured the view of the horizon to the East. I don't think there will be a chance of rainbows today! The air is damp and cold and I am wearing the Winter woollies I have resisted packing away so far this Spring. Soon, I will make a warm drink for my hands to hold but I'm reluctant to move lest I wake the snoozing Sir Steve dog at my feet. Should he stir, the day will officially begin and I am content with the quiet just now

Arum Lily blooms.
(A gift from my Mother-in-Law.)

One creamy cotton washcloth.
(I really need to block it & weave in the ends.)

Tiny & sweet Alyssum.
(The honeybees and native bees both 💛 it.)

Our beautiful elderly statesman.
(Such a gentle soul.)

A single, white Ranunculus bloom.
(Catching the light of a sunnier day.)

Loving //  The warmth of creamier whites.

Eating //  Warm and nourishing meals like this delicious version of Shepherd's Pie.

Drinking //  Lime cordial, in defiance of the weather, and just because I love its zing.

Feeling //  Like the year, and the last of my son's primary school days, are passing by so
                       quickly.

Making //  Less than I would like to be ... but I am adding to my pile of cotton washcloths!

Hoping //  ...  that our farmers, battling the drought, have had some of this
                          beautiful rain.

Dreaming //  Of Straddie island days which, at last count, are only 49 sleeps away!

Our wet weekend days will be spent cocooned, warm and dry, at home. The furthest we might go is to the little creek, down the hill and round the corner, just to see how fast its flowing and to jump a few puddles along the way. Otherwise, we'll be watching the rain fall beyond the window panes and listening to its music on our roof.

Sarah over at Say, Little Hen, hosts this monthly link-up. I'm not sure if it's raining in her part of the world this morning but you can visit her there for a peek at her gorgeous photos and for links to others joining in to share snapshots of their own days.

Have a lovely weekend, no matter the weather!
Meg

  2. Meg, it was blowing a gale here overnight and we woke to find the NBN had cut out AGAIN during the night. The modem has been reset and I am having brekky and trying to be brave and head out to the Farmers Market. I just checked online to see if it was on and there was a video of some sellers setting up but I think I will have to wear a waterproof coat and gumboots by the looks of the mud.nA brolly wouldn't last five minutes in the howling wind. I do hope our farmers are getting the rain but no damage to their crops if they have even planted any.

  5. Soft rain is gentle and calming. You can almost hear mother earth drinking it up. I wish I could drink lime juice but it cripples me with pain. Have a lovely weekend and give your beautiful four legged friend a gentle stroke for me

  6. It's due to rain here along the coast of south east England, but it's going to be the warmest October day on records, our weather is all mixed up this year. Summer blooms are still doing well in the garden, We are enjoying every extra nice day we get, soon the cold weather will arrive and we can enjoy our warm homes, whilst watching the garden snooze.

  7. I'm sharing your rain south of the border, and hoping we don't go on flood watch! Love your old Sir Steve, he has such a sweet face. A friend has a lab and she gets that intense look when there's a treat on offer. Have a cosy weekend.

  12. Slow hibernating wet weather days are good sometimes (especially punctuated with soggy doggy puddle-jumping strolls). Cuddles and love to Sir Steve!

    1. We have dashed out for walks and puddle jumping in between the downpours, Laura. Sir Steve has come back from these walks and promptly rolled around on the grass in the backyard, making extra sure he is indeed wet! Soggy doggy indeed! He sends you a happy woof! Meg:)

    1. It had been very dry here before the rain, Gina, so it's been very welcome. The garden is looking green and lush again whereas it had been parched. Nothing like rain for the garden! Meg:)

  14. I agree Meg - we have been so blessed with so much rain here (and badly needed it) but I do hope that some of the farmers have gotten some too. We have friends who did, but the storms were so wild, it's almost another disaster in itself! First no rain, now too much and with hail and damaging winds...that's Australia for you I guess...extreme weather! I always love seeing all the beautiful flowers in Here & Now, Spring is such a delightful time of year. Megan x

  16. I always love your post, Meg, they're like a little slice of calm and serenity.
I love the washcloth you've knitted, what a pretty pattern!
The weather is sunny for the first time in a whole week here today, and a little warm, too, which is SO nice. The garden has gone crazy and so has the grass, so I think there will definitely be some mowing here this weekend if the sunshine holds!
Thanks so much for joining in again,
