Little things, delicious things, thoughtful things and wonderful things that have brought some sweetness and some light to life this week. It began with rainbows...
A magical double rainbow.
Not one but two beautiful rainbows arching over a lush green paddock. Just one rainbow is a wondrous thing so two made me feel ever so fortunate to be standing in this particular spot on this particular morning.
Pink icing & sugary flowers on Mothers' Day.
A little vanilla cake, simple and sweet, for a Mothers' Day afternoon tea. It was purchased from a little local bakery that we want to support in our community. A slice served with vanilla ice-cream, fresh raspberries and one of those little marzipan hearts was such an special treat!
An old toffee tin that arrived in the post.
I 💗vintage tins! This one is an old toffee tin. Holding seeds for me and foreign coins for my collecting boy, it arrived in the post during the week. Such a sweet gift from a very dear friend. (It seems that Molly Bushell, featured in the logo on the front of the tin, began making toffees in 1753!)
A cluster of tiny yarrow flowers.
Feathery green leaves and tiny white flowers with mustard-y yellow centres. Yarrow is such a pretty plant. It's just coming into bloom in my garden now. The bees and I are ever so happy!
Homemade chocolate chip slice.
Meg
An afternoon tea slice homemade with simple ingredients. A newly discovered recipe that's quick and easy to bake and that is equally as good with a glass of icy cold milk as it is with a hot chocolate. (I'll post the recipe soon.)
A little green frog atop a rock in my birdbath.
Seeing my week included both rainbows and a little green frog, a gift from my boy on Mothers' Day, there is one more lovely thing to share with all of you. Here is the very unique sound of that ever-so-famous Muppet, Kermit-the-Frog, and his song, Rainbow Connection. I hope it brings you a smile. 🌈

Beautiful cake - both the Mother's day one and your own. I haven't seen a rainbow for ages as it has been quite dry here we could do with some rain my water butt is dry.
ReplyDeleteI thought the Mothers' Day cake was very simple and sweet and very pink! We usually just buy our bread from this bakery but want to support this little business so chose this cake. I hope you get some rain soon and a chance of seeing a rainbow too. MegXx
DeleteIt sounds like you've had a lovely week Meg. The Mothers Day cake is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteHi Jan. This loveliness was so welcome in what otherwise has been a long week. Our lovely elderly Labrador, Sir Steve, had a big operation (which went well) but then sadly suffered some kind of unrelayed neurological episode which has had impacts similar to stroke. He is improving now, with better balance and strength in his back legs, slowly returning. We've been so very worried about him.
DeleteHe is such a sweet fellow.

The little green frog is very sweet. I can remember back in the 70's some of my mother's friends were really into collecting frog figurines. They were really popular at the time.
ReplyDeleteI adore frogs, Sherri. I've put my little ornament on the rock in our bird bath as it seems just the right place for a frog.

Wow! A double rainbow!
ReplyDeleteI too love vintage tins. 😊
Have a wonderful week, Meg.
I keep thinking I should make some toffee to put in this little tin, Nil, but I've not made it before and think it would be very sweet.
DeleteI hope you have a lovely week too! MegXx
What a scrumptious looking Mother's Day cake, and I love the tin! I think I have seen yarrow in bloom in my neighborhood. I was wondering what those pretty, tiny, fairy-like flowers were...
ReplyDeleteIt was a most lovely Mothers' Day cake, Stephanie. Usually, I bake all our cakes, biscuits and slices so having one from the bakery was quite special.
DeleteYarrow is indeed fairy-like, with its feathery leaves and tiny flowers. I really have to get my embroidery threads out and stitch some.

Thats funny - we saw a double rainbow recently too! And I was also pretty excited!
ReplyDeleteDid you know you can use yarrow flowers for tea? Either dried or fresh (fresh is nicer) yarrow is great for helping in warding off colds and fevers which is what we use it for every winter. There are other benefits too but we use it if we feel a sniffle coming on - then a big jug is made and lots chugged down!!!
Lovely that you saw a double rainbow too, Evi. Aren't they just magical?!
DeleteI didn't know you could make tea with yarrow flowers. It sounds the perfect thing for Winter time. MegXx
What a sight two rainbows....beautiful and the Mother's Day cake looks amazing. Have a good week. Kathy
ReplyDeleteThe double rainbow was spectacular, Kathy, arching over the paddock early in the morning. I was most happy to find a spot to get a photograph.
DeleteHope you have a lively week too! MegXx
Meg, I thought that frog was an edible one for a moment until I realised he was sitting on a rock. LOL! Glad you had a lovely Mother's Day.
ReplyDeleteMmm...I quite like edible chocolate frogs:D I hope you had a lovely Mothers' Day too, Chel.

A lovely cake to enjoy on Mother's Day. I love the little frog on the bird bath.
ReplyDeleteI have a little Molly Bushell tin that used to have lollies in it which I found in my late father's shed which he had used to put odds and ends in.
How lovely to have a little Molly Bushell tin too, Rosie. What picture has your tin got on the lid? I love the Australian bush flowers on my tin.

Such a pretty cake, it looks so delicious, my mouth is watering. Yarrow is one of my favourites in the garden, I have a pink variety in the garden but it has no emerged yet. Something to look forward to. Cx
ReplyDeletePink yarrow flowers sound beautiful and definitely something to look forward to! I just have the white flowering yarrow here but would love to grow a pink variety. My pink Mothers' Day cake was indeed delicious. I couldn't go past that bright pink icing:D MegXx
DeleteI do love rainbows and a double one is extra special. We haven't seen one in ages, no rain here for weeks. I am glad you are getting rain there now. I too love Yarrow I wanted it in my garden so much that I actually bought some seeds and sprinkled them around my herb garden. It has so many great medicinal uses that I wanted my own supply.
ReplyDeleteI hope your Yarrow seeds grow so you can enjoy this amazing plant. I must read more about it as it seems to be a very useful plant for the home garden. Meg:)
DeleteI'm curious about when you planted your snow peas? I always plant mine in the fall, here in the San Francisco Bay Area that is October. Then they usually start producing in early spring. But if yours are looking so great and already bearing in the fall... Did you plant them in summer? Will they continue bearing into winter?
ReplyDeleteI think the seeds I bought last fall were not very good, in that there was a huge variation among the resulting plants, as to what sort of peas grew on them. And they didn't start bearing until really late, and they already are "done." I'm planning to buy some mail order soon, so I won't have to settle for what's left in the stores -- and maybe I'll plant them much earlier, too.
Hi Gretchen Joanna. I planted my snow peas in early Autumn (April here). Basically, I plant things as soon as I think the hot days of our Summer are over for another year. Otherwise, little seedlings get fried! I hope the seeds you order this year are more reliable and that you'll get a lovely crop of snow peas too. MegXx
