Exploring Home: Water

Let me take you exploring to places familiar to me. Places a long way from where I live now but which I can visit when I return to my childhood home and in my memories. In the Summer, when temperatures soared, we would find a creek, river, lake or rocky waterfall pool to plunge into. My love of water and of swimming where one can't see the bottom all began here. Come back home with me!

 The most beautiful blue!

The deep waters of Lake Eacham.

The view back across the lake from the 3 kilometre circuit track.

The "refreshingly" cold, shaded waters of Millaa Millaa Falls.

Millstream Falls. When I was young, you could walk all the way to the bottom!

The view of the river beyond the falls.

 Barron River Falls, Kuranda.

Tomorrow, I'm going to take you on a stroll around my mother's tropical garden. I hope you'll join me.

Meg

    1. Very lucky indeed, Jan. Going back always reminds me of the natural beauty of the area and the central place that nature had in my childhood. We had such freedom to explore and to immerse ourselves in it without ever really thinking about it. Meg:)

  3. Hi I grew up on the Tablelands too and was only up there in May. Isn't it so beautiful and green. I can remember standing behind the falls at Malanda falls and swimming in Lake Eacham at night - just a bit scary!!

    1. Swimming in Lake Eacham at night ... now, that is brave! I had a chuckle when we visited this time when we found the sign that warned of the fresh-water crocodile in residence! I'm sure it keeps it's distance from all the folk swimming and jumping off the pontoon. Meg:)

  4. Hi Meg, my darling daughter moved up to Cairns nearly 2 years ago, we went up to visit in August last year and just loved it. They took us to Paronella Park, the Kuranda sky rail, day trips out to the Atherton table lands and Palm Cove, we loved it all. I am taking my sister and her family on a cruise up the qld coast and calling into Cairns again, it will be lovely. Have a wonderful time

    1. It's a beautiful part of the world in which to live, Fiona. I grew up on the Atherton Tablelands and so, as the plane descends ready to land at Cairns Airport, I look to the mountains that are West of the city and know I'm not far from home. I'm sure you and your sister and her family will love that cruise! Meg:)
