Here & Now 6

The day dawned, golden and quiet. As the sun rose, so did I. And, as I do on many a quiet morning, I made my way down to the garden while others slept. I spent the early morning hours visiting the flowers, watering the veggies, pulling a few weeds and waiting for our bees to deem it warm enough to leave their hives. Mornings that begin like these always leave me grateful for the here and the now that is mine.

Loving // The warm colours of a sunrise that sets the sky aglow.
Eating // Homemade vanilla ice-cream with flecks of chocolate and honeycomb. Mmm...
Drinking // In the warmth, colours and scents of Spring.
Feeling // Soil under my fingernails and on the soles of my feet.
Making //  As many mulberry and apple pies as I possibly can!
Thinking // There is nothing so happy as a dog with a stick to fetch:)
Dreaming // Of river swims.

  1. I'm an early riser, but I fear doing a bit of gardening first thing, as once I'm in the zone I don't come back for hours! The kids would be late for school with no lunches made! LOL

  2. Oh, that first photograph Meg - so pretty! Isn't mother nature amazing?
    Your posy of flowers looks beautiful; do the sweet peas have a scent? I grew them for the first time last year and loved their delicious perfume.

    Thank-you so much for joining in! I'm off to let my chicken out to forage and this will definitely include throwing a stick for one of my Border Collies - and you're right, nothing makes her happier!

    1. Thanks, Sarah, for fixing my link:) Nature is definitely amazing with golden sunrises & deliciously scented sweet peas just two examples of that incredible beauty.

      We took our Sir Steve dog, a rescued Labrador, out to the river on Sunday where we indulged his love of fetching sticks from the water over and over again. It's so lovely to see him playing like this as he will not fetch anything else. I love how he gives this 'game' his full attention and seems so full of joy when he brings that stick out of the water and lays it 'almost' (okay, nowhere near) at our feet. Pure happiness!

  3. Wow - you are harvesting veges already, I have only just planted my first lettuces and beetroot. Love those sweetpeas too.

    1. Hi Julie. I've been picking little harvests of veggies each morning. Beans for stir-fry and lettuce/tomatoes for salads. The lettuce has all sprung up by itself, self sown from earlier plantings. My beetroot is finished now but I have some seed to put in the gaps as other veg finishes. I hope your first lettuces and beetroots aren't too far away. Meg

    1. Hello, Kim. We look out toward the horizon from our back deck and I love to venture out there to look out at the big, wide sky. Mornings like these in the garden feel like a deep, calming breath to me before more busy work begins. How is your garden growing? Meg

    1. Hi, Elizabeth. Sunrises, when I rise early enough to see the sun warm the sky, remind me that a brand new day is beginning and that there are many possibilities within that one day. Lots of possibilities with homemade icecream too...chocolate and honeycomb, ribbons of homemade strawberry sauce, little pieces of broken meringue salvaged from leftover pavlova. Dreaming now of ice-cream and it's only breakfast time here!

  9. Gorgeous sunrise. Your spring gardens are so far ahead of mine! Tomatoes! So jealous. Now feeling quite hungry (a frequent hazard of Here & Now). Could fruity pie with ice cream be a balanced breakfast? I think I could cover all the food group bases with a few almonds sprinkled on top. Mmmm... :)

    1. Here & Now posts always leave me feeling peckish too, Laura:) I think, if one wished to indulge in a fruity pie breakfast every now and again then one should definitely do so. If I did that though, I'd have to make sure a certain young boy didn't catch me given my steadfast explanations as to why one can't have dessert for breakfast. Meg:)

  10. what a lovely uplifting post, there is really so much to be grateful for. You have sweet peas! Oh I love them, wish they would grow here in tropical North Queensland, but they dont....

    1. Oh, sweet peas are my most favourite flower! Their scent is just something else! Some years, I have more success than others growing them though. My Grandparents lived in Far North Qld, on the Atherton Tablelands. They grew sweet peas, I remember tall trellises covered with them. The temperatures and humidity is different on the Tablelands though compared to the coast. Perhaps that's why my grandparents were able to grow them. Thanks for stopping by! Meg
